What can a thermal imaging camera detect?

A thermal imaging camera captures the surface temperature of objects and visualizes temperature differences. It detects heat loss, overheating, or potential moisture areas, but cannot "see through" walls.

When is building thermography useful?

It is particularly useful during the cold season when there is a significant temperature difference (usually at least 10-15°C) between interior and exterior. It helps locate thermal bridges and insulation defects.

What weather conditions are required?

For outdoor building thermography, dry conditions without direct sunlight are ideal – often early in the morning or late in the evening. For indoor industrial thermography, weather plays no role.

Does the heating need to be turned on?

Yes, for meaningful building thermography, the building should generally be heated evenly for at least 24 hours prior to the measurement to establish thermal equilibrium.

How does industrial thermography work?

The measurement is taken during regular operation, often under full load. Electrical systems and machines are inspected without contact to detect component overheating early.

Can electrical systems be inspected during operation?

Yes, this is one of the greatest advantages. Systems do not need to be shut down, which prevents production downtime and provides realistic measurement results under load.

What does a thermography report contain?

The report contains thermograms (thermal images) and visual images, marked anomalies, temperature values, professional evaluation, and concrete recommendations for action.

How long does an inspection take?

The duration depends on the size of the object and number of measurement points. A single-family house usually takes 1–2 hours, while complex industrial plants take correspondingly longer.
